2018 – 17′ – Mauro Vecchi

Roman is a young Latino newly arrived in Milan to reunite with his mother. Nora, a girl of Roman’s age and origins, tells him about the Armada Latina, a feared and respected Latin gang. He thinks it might be the only way to get out of anonymity and loneliness. However before joining the new family he will have to go through a “baptism”.

A teenager on the first day of work as an undertaker and a boy on the first diving mission are on the bridge of a ferry directed to Lampedusa. They don’t know each other, but when they’ll set foot on the island their lives will change forever: one will have to recover the shipwrecked bodies, the other will have to bury them, in a sort of ballet between life and death, between the innocence and his loss.

Paola Clemente, a 49-year old laborer from Puglia, died of fatigue on the 13th of July 2015. Her story is told through facts and words of the enquiry to the gangmasters that exploited her and by the voices of women travelling on the bus that takes them to the field-work.

This way, he escapes the physical and mental alienation of the fascist dictatorship and gains absolute freedom.

Fabio is a 50-year-old man who, after being released from prison, tries to find a job as a cashier but he first needs to take the third-grade exam. Thus, Fabio begins to attend an evening school, in which he manages to integrate himself, both with his classmates and with the teacher. His path will be hampered by Lallo, an old ex convict friend, who will try to involve him in a last job, which could bring Fabio back to his criminal life.

The town is quiet. Only the breaths and a few dogs barking win the silence. Men, women and children, all suddenly fell in a permanent sleep. Two young boy scouts sheltered in a church are the only ones still awake in a sleeping world.

The earth has succumbed to pollution, everything is submerged by a sea of dark and thin dust. A young woman has saved herself aboard an improvised raft and survives thanks to the food she recovers in the abandoned city, diving in the sea of dust. The woman will finally land on an island and find a small plant which will grow with lots of love.

The city at night is the hallucinated battlefield of an exhausted Napoleon, perhaps not completely tamed yet. In its nocturnal wanderings, the genesis of a defeat is punctuated step by step, and from being personal it becomes universal. The damp eye of our Napoleon, tenderly desperate, meets the tangible signs of the near end of our society.
